SintelSat Participates in the Afghanistan Reconstruction Summit (ARS) 2010 in Turkey

Stony Brook, NY, January 25, 2010—Sintel Satellite Services, Inc. (SintelSat) participated in the Afghan Reconstruction Summit (ARS) on the 20-21 January 2010 in Istanbul, Turkey. International organizations and representatives of renowned private companies, and government officials from Afghanistan, Turkey and neighboring nations gathered for this event. Hon. Ahmad Zia Sayd Khali, Afghanistan Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Hikmat Cetin, former Foreign Minister of Turkey and NATO's Former Senior Civilian Representative for Afghanistan, Colonel Mario Luppa, Brigadier General Jean-Fred Berger of the International Assistance Force, Dr. Karen Badalov of Eutelsat, Yalda Natiq from the Afghanistan Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, and leaders from their respective organizations shared their knowledge and experience to the participants of the summit.

SintelSat along with its COO, Mr. Sanjay Singhal, and its emerging markets specialist, Mr. David Colebank, were very pleased to provide their insight into the problems faced working in Afghanistan and how the company has overcome some of those difficulties in the past. The problems associated with corruption, poor infrastructure and lack of support from local government officials have hampered the progress and economic development in the country. SintelSat has been very active in providing the much needed infrastructure and communication to the local Afghan people, their government and the deployed expatriate community. Majority of the work has been in the telecom sector providing satellite based services to international community including ISAF NATO Base, US Bases, AFTN, KAIA, US Embassy, USAID and many other international agencies and bases. The presence of local nationals in our team and continuous training by our US expatriate personnel has built a solid team in country to handle complex projects with challenging logistics and time schedules. SintelSat has developed in country teams in various regions of Afghanistan including Kabul, Kandahar, Jalalabad, Mazar–e- Sharieff and Herat with warehousing facilites in Kabul. In addition, we have developed additional warehousing facility in Dubai and with logistics arrangement with our freight forwarding partners to bring the shipment to Kabul on almost daily basis.

Among other things, SintelSat presented its “Capability in Afghanistan” presentation which included highlights on its satellite, fiber and wireless solutions, particularly C and Ku band solutions with satellite coverage over entire Afghanistan from our European hub in Germany and from Hong Kong in Asia. SintelSat’s Ku band iDirect satellite platform using Eutelsat W6 Satellite and C band SCPC, DVB-S2 satellite solutions have provided services to many of the remote areas in Afghanistan with 24 x 7 x 365 field support and NOC operations in the region. Our Global NOC is operated from multiple centers (Germany, India, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Philippines and USA) thus making sure that a full round the clock circuit monitoring is available of the mission critical services. Trained on-site field personnel are available locally in Afghanistan on all 7 days basis thus making sure that tight SLAs are provided and adhered to. SintelSat has provided similar 24 x 7 x 365 maintenance services on microwave links and fiber circuits to US Embassy, DAB Afghan Bank, Bearing Point and many other customers in the past.

The ARS 2010 summit event was an important event to meet some of the familiar faces including the AACC President and Ex- Congressman Don Ritter and get his opinion on Afghan business climate from the US perspective.

ARS 2010 was a two-day panel discussions featured different aspects of the problems Afghanistan is facing in rebuilding infrastructure in the post-war era. The panel groups presentation topics include Understanding Afghanistan’s Investment Law; Security, Stability and Investment; Infrastructure and Main Projects; Manufacturing, Agricultural Production and Utilities; Training and Management Rehabilitation; Operational Capability and Business Support; and other issues associated with the Afghan infrastructure rebuilding.
